How Can We Donate, Help Others in a Way That Satisfies God

By Limu

After believing in the Lord, Xinjie often read the Bible, and saw the Lord’s love for mankind. The Lord, for the sake of saving mankind, was personally incarnated and nailed to the cross, and took on the sins of all mankind with His precious blood, so we can survive until today. Xinjie was greatly encouraged, resolving to repay His love and be someone who loved Him. But what was the way to love the Lord? Once, at a sister’s home, Xinjie saw a video which was about the experiences of an old sister in San Francisco. She helped sisters and brothers, doing all she could to give charity and care to those who had difficulties; moreover, she always received those who worked for the Lord. Therefore, brothers and sisters all said the old sister was compassionate. After watching the video, Xinjie thought of the Lord’s words saying, “Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me” (Matthew 25:40). Then she thought practicing loving the Lord meant to help brothers and sisters financially and materially, especially helping those who worked hard. As a result, every time workers came to the church, Xinjie either stuffed money into their pockets or loaded packages of agricultural products into their cars. The workers, wearing a smile and praising Xinjie for her loving heart, often laid their hands upon her to pray for her—may the Lord bestow from the top down riches on her. At such times, a big smile came to Xinjie’s face, and she felt that she had finally done something that was approved by the Lord.

With a smile on her face

The place where Xinjie lived was rich in peanuts. Once a sister from the city came to Xinjie’s home to sustain a church. Xinjie just extracted several barrels of oil from peanuts. After seeing the oil, she said: “Countryside is really much better than the city. Your cooking oil is homemade, and it’s pure. However, in the city, there’s no way to buy such pure oil.” After hearing that, Xinjie immediately took out 5 kilos of peanut oil, a bag of flour which was milled by herself, and some agricultural products and gave her. At another time, Xinjie went shopping with another sister in a supermarket and each of them chose a piece of clothing, but Xinjie insisted on paying it for her. Because she thought that she should give charity to and help brothers and sisters, and that doing in this way was practicing love for the Lord, and that the Lord must be pleased with what she did.

Not before ago, Xinjie encountered an old classmate, who was also a Christian. Not having seen in years, they chatted about their current situations when they met. Xinjie spoke of the progress of her spiritual life during this time, how she had spent for the Lord and how she had looked after brothers and sisters. She believed that she would be praised, but to her surprise, a different opinion came from her classmate, “We are willing to donate and help brothers and sisters to prepare good deeds, and our intentions are right. However, we make a donation to people, irrespective of whether they are true believers or not, and whether they need help or not, and will it conform to the will of the Lord? If not, then what we have done will not be a good deed. If this is the case, we won’t be praised by God though we have given generous donations.” After hearing what her classmate said, Xinjie frowned at once, and said unhappily, “The Lord said, ‘Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me’ (Matthew 25:40). What I did is according to the Lord’s requirement, how can it not be in line with the Lord’s will?” Her classmate said with a smile, “The words of the Lord should be carefully pondered. Only in this way can we understand the true meaning of His words. We know the second coming of the Lord in the last days will separate the wheat from the tares, the wise virgins from the foolish virgins, the sheep from the goats, and good servants from evil servants. The Lord said, ‘Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven’ (Matthew 7:21). ‘For many be called, but few chosen’ (Matthew 20:16). ‘But the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil’ (Matthew 13:38-39). From these verses we can see: Not every believer in God is a true believer; not all deeds of believers are approved by God; not all of us can enter the kingdom of heaven. In God’s words, believers in God have been divided into true believers, fake followers, good servants and evil servants. So we should discern according to the Lord’s words: Who are true believers in God? Who are not sincere believers that are of the same sort as Satan, and are the evil-doers who have infiltrated? Therefore, we should be principled in helping others, helping the true believers, pursuers of the truth, and those who have the Holy Spirit’s work. In other words, those who obey God’s work, practice God’s words in all things and act according to His requirements, obey God’s commandments, truly sacrifice and expend for the Lord, have no personal intentions or impurity, but only pursue to obey God, love God and satisfy God are the ones we must help with a loving heart when they have difficulties. However, the following people are not the targets we should help: The fake believers who nominally believe in God, don’t pursue the truth, nor do they like to read or practice the Lord’s words, have no place for God in their heart and only pay lip service to their faith in God; the hypocritical Pharisees, serving God but raising and testifying themselves, never exalt or testify God; some families that are wealthy, and those who don’t need to help. If we help them with good intentions, it will not be after God’s heart. Only when we distinguish all kinds of people can we know how to treat them, and we’ll be clear about what kind of people we should help in accordance with the Lord’s will. As the Lord said, ‘Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me’ (Matthew 25:40). ‘The least of these my brothers’ in the verse refers to brothers and sisters who genuinely believe in God and spend for God sincerely, rather than the false believers, false servants or evil servants. Therefore, only giving charity to brothers and sisters who truly believe in God can our deeds be after God’s will. If we help the fake believers and false servants with a loving heart, then what we have done will not satisfy God’s will, and it will not be a good deed, but an evil act.”

After hearing her old classmate’s fellowship, Xinjie found what she said was quite reasonable. She thought, “I really never thought about discerning others. I believed as long as I helped more brothers and sisters, the Lord would remember that. It seems that all my thoughts are my own notions and imaginations. I never heard such unique insights in her fellowship!”

How Can We Donate, Help Others in a Way That Satisfies God

Then Xinjie asked her classmate, “Where does this knowledge come from? Why have I never heard it before?” She said, smiling, “From a book. I used to be like you, making donations, and hosting brothers and sisters by zeal, thinking that doing this must be praised by the Lord. Afterward, I saw the following words from the book, ‘There is always a principle to God’s actions….’ ‘Since you acknowledge that you are numbered among the house of God, you ought then to bring peace of mind to God and satisfy Him in all things. In other words, you must be principled in your actions and conform to the truth in them.’ From this I knew God does things according to principles, so He requires us to handle things in a principled way and conform to the truth in our actions. Therefore, we must seek His will when we do things. Only in this way can we satisfy God’s will. For example, in dealing with others, God sees people’s essence, but we only see what’s on the surface of them. If they had external effort and outward dedication, we thought their deeds would satisfy God’s will. Now we understand that it is our conception and imagination, which is not after God’s will, and is not in accordance with the truth. Therefore, we should seek God’s intention in everything we do in the future. After I read the book, one of my erroneous viewpoint has been corrected. I finally come to know that believing in the Lord cannot only rely on enthusiasm, and that it is vital to seek the truth in everything we encounter and act according to the truth. In this way, what we do will please God.”

The more Xinjie listened, the more she was enlightened. She affirmed that her classmate’s fellowship came from the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. Xinjie would like to borrow it from her classmate, and she agreed right away.

After going home, Xinjie opened the book and saw it was all about the principles of practice in all aspects about belief in God. One of the principles was “Principles of Offering and Donation,” which was the one she urgently needed to understand. The book says, “The chosen people of God should focus their donations on helping the poverty-stricken households of those who sincerely expend for God and pursue the truth. Only this will please God and conform to God’s word. ‘Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me’ (Mat 25:40). Donations must be made to help selected recipients. Only those good people who truly believe in God, expend for God, pursue the truth, perform their duties, do the work and win God’s acceptance are the ones really blessed by God. Only by donating to those favored by God, blessed by God and accompanied by the work of the Holy Spirit, will God be pleased. If donations are made to those who do not have the work of the Holy Spirit and never practice the truth, to false leaders and false workers who disrupt and disturb God’s work, and to wicked people who disturb church life, it will not be commemorated by God at all but detested by God instead. Good deeds must be done in a way that pleases God in order to be well accepted and commemorated by God. This is the principle of truth that God’s chosen people must understand. Those who don’t understand the truth but want to donate to help others should seek direction and guidance from those who understand the truth. This is necessary because it can help avoid making mistakes and going astray. Only good deeds well accepted by God are good deeds. God does not recognize any good deeds that contradict His intention. Therefore, one should understand God’s intention when preparing good deeds, and the key is to select the right recipients.” “To be in line with God’s intention when preparing good deeds, one must first discern whether the recipients are right or wrong. If your good deeds are done to the false leaders, antichrists or evildoers, then you are doing bad deeds instead of good deeds because you are helping the nefarious culprits who resist God. Aren’t you aiding and abetting a tyrant? When preparing good deeds and making compassionate donations in the last days, one must understand the truth, grasp God’s will, and grasp the principles of practice in order to be blessed by God. This is what God’s chosen people must be clear about. Don’t be a confused person who is deceived and exploited by others. If one intends to do good but ends up doing evil, it is not worth it. He is someone who does good blindly.”

After reading these words, Xinjie better understood that donating and helping others should be demonstrated according to principle. She also knew: If we help people who have performed all kinds of wicked deeds, what we do will oppose God and it will do evil. Xinjie thought of the sister who lived in the city: She was very rich, but she liked to ask brothers and sisters for something wherever she went. No matter how many things they gave her, she never refused. She was as greedy as an unbeliever. From this, it could be seen that she worked for the Lord so as not to love Him but to get the wages. Xinjie thought: It is against God’s will to give charity to her. Besides, some believers are nominal believers, and they never practice the Lord’s words. If I help these people, it also will not be after the Lord’s will. Thanks God for arranging my classmate to fellowship about the “Principles of Offering and Donation,” otherwise I will go on helping them by zeal. Resisting God, I don’t know. In the future, I should help others according to the God’s words.

Xinjie reflected on herself according to the principle. The more she pondered, the more she understood them. She felt her relationship with God was much closer. She saw that the book tells people all aspects of principles in the life. When she acted according to the principles in the book, her relationship with God became more and more normal and she made obvious progress with her life after a period of time.

The Standard By Which Man Judges the Righteous

Bible

By chance, a friend of mine shared with me these Bible verses—the parable of the net in Matthew 13:47-50, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.Continue reading

Resurected Jesus Appears to His Disciples

Every time I watch this movie clip I am inspired. When the resurrected Lord Jesus came back among His disciples, it fulfilled the prophecy that the Son of man would rise again three days after the crucifixion, which reveals God’s authority: what He says will stand, and brings hope for mankind. Later on, I recognize that there is profound meaning behind the Lord Jesus’ appearance to His disciples after resurrection.

God’s words say: “After the Lord Jesus was resurrected, He appeared to the people He thought necessary, spoke with them, and made requirements of them, leaving behind His intentions, and His expectations of people. That is to say, as God incarnate, it doesn’t matter if it was during His time in the flesh, or in the spiritual body after being nailed to the cross and being resurrected—His concern for mankind and requirements of people did not change. He was concerned about these disciples before He was up on the cross; in His heart, He was clear on the state of every single person, He understood every person’s deficiency, and of course His understanding of every person was the same after He had died, resurrected, and become a spiritual body as it was when He was in the flesh. He knew that people weren’t entirely certain of His identity as Christ, but during His time in the flesh He did not make strict demands of people. But after He had been resurrected He appeared to them, and He made them absolutely certain that the Lord Jesus had come from God, that He was God incarnate, and He used the fact of His appearance and His resurrection as the greatest vision and motivation for mankind’s lifelong pursuit. His resurrection from death not only strengthened all those who followed Him, but also thoroughly put His work of the Age of Grace into effect among mankind, and thus the gospel of the Lord Jesus’ salvation in the Age of Grace gradually spread to every corner of humanity.

These words reveal the unknown mystery behind the Lord Jesus’ appearance to people after His resurrection. At the same time, I come to understand the Lord Jesus’ concern for mankind. He didn’t wish to see those who followed Him return to the old age or lose confidence in Him, so He came back among people to make them affirm His resurrection. This fact strengthened all the followers at that time. Even though the demons did all they could to persecute the believers and obstruct the spread of the gospel, it has spread all over the earth. It proves that no one can restrain what God wants to achieve. Now it is the last days, the prophecies of the second coming of the Lord Jesus have been basically fulfilled. May we all welcome His coming and keep up with His footsteps!

John 4:14

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

The Lord Jesus is Christ in the flesh. He has the substance of God, and is the source of the living water of life. God Himself is eternal life. Therefore, God incarnate can express the truth and give man the way of eternal life. Since it is the way of eternal life, it is a way that enables man to live forever. We cannot avoid thinking: Have we gained the way of eternal life? Some people say: “Though we have been forgiven our sins for believing in the Lord Jesus and have the hope of gaining eternal life, we still live in sin and often commit sins and resist God in spite ourselves. We haven’t broken free from the bondage of sin and become holy. The wages of sin is death, so we haven’t gained eternal life.” Each believer in the Lord has the same feeling. Then how can we gain the way of eternal life?

As we all know, the redemption work the Lord Jesus did in the Age of Grace had not completely purified or saved man. God’s work of saving mankind is divided up into stages. It is not work that can be completed by just carrying out the one stage of redemption work. After the Lord Jesus has completed His redemptive work, He promised that He would return. Just as the Lord Jesus said, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come” (John 16: 12–13). “He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). The Lord Jesus prophecies have been fulfilled—Christ of the last days does the work of judgment beginning with the house of God. He has expressed all the truths to purify and save mankind, these truths are the way of eternal life that is given to man by God in the last days. Only by accepting all truths expressed by Christ of last days for the salvation of mankind can we gain the way of eternal life. Just as God says, “Christ of the last days brings life, and brings the enduring and everlasting way of truth. This truth is the path through which man shall gain life, and the only path by which man shall know God and be approved by God. If you do not seek the way of life provided by Christ of the last days, then you shall never gain the approval of Jesus, and shall never be qualified to enter the gate of the kingdom of heaven, for you are both a puppet and prisoner of history. Those who are controlled by regulations, by letters, and shackled by history will never be able to gain life, and will never be able to gain the perpetual way of life. That is because all they have is turbid water that has lain stagnant for thousands of years, instead of the water of life that flows from the throne. Those who are not supplied with the water of life will forever remain corpses, playthings of Satan, and sons of hell. How, then, can they behold God?”

Proverbs 3:7

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse teaches us not to be self-righteous or be wise in our conceit but to fear God and shun evil. This is the greatest wisdom. In our daily lives, we often think so highly of ourselves and do not allow others to blame us. We believe that everything we do is right and that we are better than everyone else. This is living based on arrogant and conceited corrupt disposition. We believe that we have brains, and caliber, and can gain insight into things, so we do everything by ourselves and put God aside without any reverence for Him. Thus, we easily offend God. For example, the Pharisees were proficient in the Bible, but they did not have a heart that fears God at all. Therefore, they used Bible knowledge and theology to measure the words and work of God and believed that the Messiah would descend as they had imagined. When the Lord Jesus came to do His work, even though He expressed many truths and performed many miracles, the Pharisees neither sought nor studied whether His work was from God and whether His word was God’s voice and was the truth. They were self-righteous and thought that as long as it did not conform with their notions and imaginations, He was not the Messiah. In the end, they nailed the Lord Jesus who expressed the truth to the cross and committed a heinous crime. From this, we can see that we should revere God toward His work and our belief in Him instead of thinking that we understand the truth and are able to see things clearly. As a matter of fact, we are just creatures of God. How could we possibly fathom the work of God? Since there are past examples for warning, we should learn lessons and not be self-righteous. Now the last days have arrived and the Lord Jesus is coming soon. Facing the second coming of Jesus, we should honor God as great, fear God and carefully seek and study if someone testifies for us the second coming of Jesus. Only thus can we understand God’s will and welcome the second coming of Jesus. So, fearing God and shunning evil is the sense that we created being should possess. Just as God says, “A genuine created being must know who the Creator is, what man’s creation is for, how to carry out the responsibilities of a created being, and how to worship the Lord of all creation, must understand, grasp, know, and care for the Creator’s intentions, wishes, and demands, and must act in accordance with the way of the Creator—fear God and shun evil.

Proverbs 13:20

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse tells us what kind of people we associate with is wise. If we make friends with wise men, we’ll be wise. If with fools, we’ll surely be destroyed. Then what kind of people are wise? And what kind of people are fools? The Bible says, “The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). From it we can see that those who can fear God and have knowledge of Him are wise. Just as when the Lord Jesus came to do His work at the Age of Grace, those who followed Him were wise men. For example, Peter, John, Jacob, they followed Jesus at once when they heard His voice, so they were wise men. If we associate with such kind of people, we’ll have the chance to obtain God’s salvation. Whereas, the Jewish chief priests, scribes and Pharisees didn’t have a God-revering heart, much less did they know God. So they were fools. Though they listened to Jesus’ preachings, they didn’t seek or investigate to accept the truths but found fault with Him, resisted and condemned the Lord Jesus, nailed Him to the cross. As a result, they were punished and cursed by God. If we follow such people without discernment, we shall be destroyed, and even cursed and punished by God. It is the last days of Jesus second coming. How to distinguish between wise men and foolish ones is a major thing that affects whether or not we can be saved. The Lord Jesus prophesied, “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet him” (Matthew 25:6). When someone testifies that Jesus has returned, only wise virgins can recognize the voice of God and welcome Him. They themselves not only welcome the reappearance of Jesus, but also can lead brothers and sisters to seek and investigate God’s work of the last days, and gain His salvation in the last days. Conversely, when those stubborn foolish virgins hear the voice of God, they don’t accept, but block brothers and sisters from seeking and investigating the true way, thus losing God’s salvation in the last days. Such people are foolish. Obviously, it is really important to walk with wise men.

Only those who follow the footsteps of the Lamb to the very end can gain the final blessing, whereas those ‘clever people,’ who are unable to follow to the very end yet believe they have gained all, are incapable of witnessing the appearance of God. They all believe they are the smartest person on earth, and they cut short the continued development of God’s work for no reason at all, and seem to believe with absolute certainty that God will take them up to heaven, they who ‘have the utmost loyalty to God, follow God, and abide by the words of God.’ Even though they have the ‘utmost loyalty’ toward the words spoken by God, their words and actions still feel so disgusting because they oppose the work of the Holy Spirit, and commit deceit and evil. Those who do not follow to the very end, who do not keep up with the work of the Holy Spirit, and who only cleave to the old work have not only failed to achieve loyalty to God, but on the contrary, have become those who oppose God, have become those who are rejected by the new age, and who will be punished. Are there any more pitiable than them? ”

Isaiah 40:8

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

This verse tells us that the grass withers, the flower fades, but God’s words shall never disappear and will remain until forever. This is true. From the work of God, we can see the fact that “He is as good as His word, and His word shall be accomplished, and that which is accomplished lasts forever”. In the time of Noah, after God used a flood to destroy the world because of man’s corruption, He established the covenant of the rainbow with Noah as a sign that He would never again destroy the world using floods. The rainbow we see today is a reflection of the authority of God’s words. Abraham was willing to offer up his only son Isaac to God, so God promised him that his progeny would be as numerous as the stars of heaven, and as plentiful as the sand on the sea shore. Until now, his progeny is all over the world; God’s promise is accomplished. Additionally, in the Age of Law, God decreed laws through Moses to lead the people to live on earth. These commandments and laws also laid a foundation for the perfection of legal systems for subsequent generations. Their influence remains till today.

Think back to the late Age of Law. People couldn’t abide by the laws, and were in danger of being condemned and cursed by the laws. God asked prophets to foretell that the Messiah would come to save Israelites from affliction. Then in the Age of Grace, God personally became flesh to be nailed to the cross as a sin offering for humanity, thereby redeeming us from sin. His words “It is finished” meant we were no longer of sin, and would not be condemned by the laws. We would be qualified to come before God and pray to Him. God’s work of salvation in the Age of Grace was thus finished. Although we have been redeemed, our sinful nature still exists. We still live helplessly in a cycle of sinning during the day and confessing at night. The Lord Jesus prophesied, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). “And, behold, I come quickly; my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12). “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:47-48). “And I will come near to you to judgment…, said Jehovah of hosts” (Malachi 3:5). And “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God” (1 Peter 4:17). From these verses, we can understand that in the last days, God makes a promise to us mankind. He surely comes to express words to do a stage of work of judgment beginning at the house of God, and uses His words to judge and purify man’s corruptions, so that man can gain His promise. Meanwhile, God also judges man through His words so that all will follow their own kind. God will repay each man according to his deeds. This is determined by God’s words, for once God’s words issue forth, everything that God wants done will be accomplished in accordance with His words. This is the truth that never changes. Then how should we approach God’s promise?
